Fayose Challenges PDP Expulsion Threat

Must read

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has publicly challenged the call for his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Dare Adeleke. This recommendation stems from the party’s accusations that Fayose engaged in anti-party activities, particularly by endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for re-election.

In a recent interview, Fayose reaffirmed his support for Oyebanji, thereby straining relations within the PDP. In response to the expulsion recommendation, Fayose dismissed Adeleke’s authority, asserting that he lacks the power to act against him. “My status is not up for debate,” Fayose stated through his aide, Lere Olayinka. Furthermore, he noted, “Adeleke’s position is under legal scrutiny, which undermines his credibility.” By doing so, Fayose suggested that challenges to Adeleke’s chairmanship render his actions meaningless.

Meanwhile, Adeleke addressed the media in Ado Ekiti to defend the recommendation. He asserted that Fayose’s public endorsements of opposition candidates damage the unity and values of the PDP. Additionally, he described Fayose’s actions as misleading and damaging to the party’s reputation.

In light of this, Fayose questioned the rationale behind supporting a governor he claims has failed to deliver on key issues, such as infrastructure and public services in Ekiti. “Where is the progress?” Fayose asked, emphasizing the deteriorating state of roads and healthcare under Oyebanji’s administration.

As tensions escalate, Adeleke emphasized the importance of unity within the PDP. He urged members to remain focused and not be distracted by Fayose’s actions. In conclusion, he called for Fayose to either align fully with the PDP or officially defect to the APC.

Ultimately, both leaders’ contrasting views underscore a critical moment for the PDP in Ekiti as they navigate internal conflicts. Moreover, they aim to strengthen their party’s position ahead of upcoming elections.
