Tinubu sacks five ministers

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed five ministers from his cabinet, according to a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

The ministers affected are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

The statement outlined eight major actions approved by the President to enhance the efficiency of his administration. These include the renaming of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee all regional development commissions, and the transfer of the Ministry of Sports Development’s responsibilities to the National Sports Commission. Additionally, the Federal Ministries of Tourism and Arts & Culture have been merged into the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.

Ten ministers were reassigned to new portfolios, and seven new ministerial nominees have been submitted to the Senate for confirmation. Other notable appointments include Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation.

Among the newly appointed ministers, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu will serve as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour & Employment, and Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development. Additionally, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata was named Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, while Suwaiba Said Ahmad will serve as Minister of State for Education.
