Police Nab Notorious Kidnappers, Armed Robbers in Borno

[By Abigail Philip David]

The Borno State Police Command has apprehended six suspected kidnappers and armed robbers accused of terrorizing the Magumeri and Konduga Local Government Areas.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the suspects had allegedly been extorting local villagers under the guise of tax collection. Authorities also recovered about ₦2.6 million in cash from the group.

“On October 25, 2024, following a credible tip-off, the Command’s Crack Squad executed a covert operation in Chingowa Village, Konduga LGA, leading to the arrest of suspects Modu Bindimi (26), Koso Modu Gana (24), Kassim Bulama (27), Isah Muhammed (21), Zarami Fantami (22), and Modu Bunu (24),” the statement reads. Police reportedly seized one pump-action gun, one live cartridge, and ₦2,637,000 from the suspects.

The investigation suggests the group is responsible for multiple armed robberies, kidnappings, and extortion of villagers in Magumeri and Konduga, where they reportedly collected money as “tax” to prevent further attacks.

The suspects have confessed to the crimes and will face charges in court after a thorough investigation.

ASP Daso noted, “The Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu, reaffirms the Command’s dedication to public safety and urges citizens to report suspicious activities. Residents can reach the police through emergency contacts 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.”
