Ember months: FRSC, others call for caution

Abel Leonard/lafia

Impatience of drivers and reckless driving on roads in Nasarawa State have been endangering the lives of passengers and pedestrians, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ismaila Maiwada Kugu, has said.

He stated this at the Federal University Lafia during the 2019 special marshals’ sectoral workshop.

He said the human casualty figures of those killed or maimed by road accidents in the state recently were enough indicators that something must be done fast to reduce to the barest minimum all road mishaps.

He attributed the high accident rate to impatience of drivers, excessive speeding and overloading, among other human and mechanical factors.

The governor of the state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Aliyu Tijjani, said there is an urgent need for some drastic and far-reaching measures to be taken and adopted to reduce road accidents in the state.

The SSG, who declared the workshop open and was decorated as an honourable special corp marshal, assured the university authorities on the state government’s continued support for its infrastructural development.

The vice-chancellor of Federal University Lafia, Prof Mohammed Sanusi Liman, said road accidents have been a major challenge in the state in particular and Nigeria at large and called for urgent measures to curb the menace.
