World Bank Approves $50M to Tackle Nigeria’s Nutrition Challenges

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The World Bank has announced a $50 million fund to support Nigeria’s efforts in tackling food and nutrition challenges. During a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Ndiame Diop, World Bank’s country director, explained that the funds will be part of the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) Project 2.0, a crisis response initiative.

Trina Haque, the World Bank’s health and nutrition lead, emphasized the importance of nutrition education for children to boost early development. Responding, Shettima introduced the N-774 initiative, a community-driven program focused on bringing sustainable nutrition solutions to all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

Shettima noted that this locally tailored approach integrates nutrition goals across health, education, agriculture, and social protection, leveraging local resources for sustainable impact. He affirmed that the current administration aims for swift, lasting results to reverse Nigeria’s poor nutrition indicators.

This funding follows the World Bank’s recent approval of $1.57 billion for health and human capital projects in Nigeria, underscoring continued global support for local growth initiatives.
