Super Falcons Midfielder Abiodun Impresses in NCAA Women’s Soccer

By Abigail Philip David

Deborah Abiodun, the rising Super Falcons midfielder, is making waves in the NCAA Division I women’s soccer league, representing the University of Pittsburgh with standout performances.

Now in her second year, the 21-year-old was named to the Second Team All-ACC on Wednesday, marking her second consecutive season earning top honors. She helped the Panthers close their regular season with a 9-6-3 record, including a 3-5-2 tally in ACC play.

Abiodun missed six games due to injury but returned strong, scoring her first goal of the season in a win over Clemson on October 3, 2024, and notching a brace in a 3-0 victory over Syracuse ten days later. She also led her team with four goals in ACC play, including Pitt’s sole goal against Florida State on October 20.

The Ibadan-born midfielder has continued to shine, earning recognition as a PNC Achiever of the Week after her two-goal performance against Syracuse. She scored her first goal with a header off a corner in the 76th minute, followed by her second goal just six minutes later.

This is Abiodun’s second All-ACC recognition after making the Third Team and the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2023. Her journey began at Rivers Angels Football Club in the Nigerian Women’s Football League, where her impressive play attracted scouts and ultimately led to a full scholarship with the University of Pittsburgh’s women’s soccer team.
