The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) extends warm congratulations to the former NUJ President, Chief Chris Isiguzor, for the successful conduct of the 2024 Triennial Delegate Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.

In a press statement co-signed by Chairman Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori and Secretary Muhammad Nasir Bello, the council lauded the peaceful transition, which culminated in the historic victory of the former Deputy National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, as the new NUJ President.

The council described Yahaya’s election as a groundbreaking achievement, marking the first time the North East Zone has produced a president in the union’s history.

“We commend Comrade Isiguzor for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and meticulous planning, ensuring this election stands as the most credible and successful transition in NUJ’s history. Congratulations on this monumental achievement!”

Appreciation and Prayers for the New Leadership

The Sokoto State Council also praised the host, Imo State Council, for successfully organizing the conference, tagged “Owerri 2024”, and commended the Credentials Committee for their transparent and seamless process.

As the council prays for Allah’s guidance and blessings upon Comrade Yahaya’s leadership, it called on all NUJ members to support the new leadership wholeheartedly.

“We urge everyone, including those who contested alongside Comrade Yahaya, to accept the collective judgment of NUJ members in good faith. Together, let us work to elevate our union’s standing in Nigeria and beyond.”

The council remains optimistic that this leadership transition will strengthen unity within the NUJ and contribute positively to journalism’s growth and development across the country.
