NYSC: Governor Oborevwori Urges 2024 Batch ‘C’ Corps Members to Make Positive Impact

By Anne Azuka

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has encouraged newly sworn-in 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to leave a legacy of positive impact while gaining valuable lessons for their future.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, the Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Trakiriowei ThankGod Harry, emphasized dedication and maturity in discharging their responsibilities.

Oborevwori reminded the Corps members that their deployment was not just a duty but an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Delta State’s growth while discovering their unique potential.

Formally declaring the orientation course open, the Governor urged the Corps members to embrace NYSC’s core values of discipline, teamwork, and respect for cultural diversity. He encouraged full participation in camp programs and maintaining high standards of conduct throughout their stay.

“The officials are here to guide and support you. Cooperate with them to ensure a seamless and impactful experience. Maintain discipline and self-respect in all you do in the camp,” he stated.

In his welcome address, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, revealed that 1,464 prospective Corps members—682 males and 782 females—had registered since the commencement of the orientation on November 27, 2024.

Kwaghe praised their commendable conduct, characterized by peace, discipline, and enthusiasm for the activities lined up for the orientation and service year.

Kwaghe expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support for NYSC activities and the welfare of Corps members. However, he appealed for further government intervention, including:

– Provision of a utility vehicle for Corps inspections.
– A vehicle for the State Coordinator.
– An ambulance to support the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) and emergencies.
– A promised 150 KVA generator.
– A perimeter fence to enhance camp security and safeguard investments.

The ceremony underscored the NYSC’s role in fostering unity, personal development, and national integration among Nigeria’s youth.
