FCTA Investing in Road Infrastructure to Unlock Communities – Wike

By Abigail Philip David

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure to open up underdeveloped communities within the territory.

Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of a three-kilometre access road at Plot 18, Giri District, Abuja, Wike noted that the project would enhance development in the area and benefit both residents and institutions, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy located nearby.

Wike highlighted that the Giri District has lagged behind other parts of Abuja due to inadequate road access and infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the new road would attract investments and spur development.

“With an access road, everyone will come and develop the area, and that is what we are aiming for. Those of you who own plots here will also benefit once the road is completed,” Wike stated.

The minister thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support in advancing the FCT’s infrastructure projects and announced that the Giri road project would be among several inaugurated to mark Tinubu’s second anniversary as president in May 2025.

Project Details

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda, disclosed that the road project, awarded to Levant Construction Ltd., spans three kilometres, connecting the Bill Clinton Interchange at the Airport Expressway to the EFCC Academy. The project is expected to be completed within nine months.

EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, represented by the commission’s Secretary, Muhammad Hammajoda, praised Wike for his leadership and commitment, referring to him as a “bulldozer” for driving progress in the FCT.

“You are our stakeholder, and we are proud of you. Thank you for this initiative,” Olukoyede said.

A Series of Infrastructure Projects

The Giri District road is the third project inaugurated by Wike in three days. Earlier this week, he launched the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara and a 10.5-kilometre road from Kabusa to Ketti, underscoring the administration’s efforts to enhance connectivity and development across the FCT.
