Court Adjourns as Prosecution Calls 7th Witness in Auxiliary’s Trial

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The trial of former National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chairman, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxiliary, resumed on Wednesday at the Oyo State High Court. The prosecution called its seventh witness, Mr. Fatai Awodele, a driver who testified about an attack he suffered on May 29, 2023, at Governor Seyi Makinde’s Ikolaba residence.

Awodele recounted how he was attacked by Auxiliary and his entourage, who were armed with cutlasses, knives, and sticks. He stated that his wristwatch and N65,000 in cash were stolen during the assault. After regaining consciousness, Awodele was taken to the police station and later received medical attention at the Government House Clinic.

The defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, cross-examined the witness, questioning his ability to identify those responsible for the attack and the political affiliations of the NURTW members involved. The case was adjourned by Justice Bayo Taiwo for further hearing on Thursday, 9th January.
