Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), has extended Nigeria’s warmest greetings to the People’s Republic of China on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in celebration of the 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival.

In a goodwill message he personally signed, Tegbe expressed his belief that the Year of the Snake will bring prosperity, good fortune, and joy to the people of both China and Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the NCSP’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties, fostering economic cooperation, and promoting people-to-people exchanges with China.

The message reads in part: “As we mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake, we reflect on the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and China. The NCSP remains committed to deepening our bilateral ties, fostering economic cooperation, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

“May the New Year bring prosperity, good fortune, and joy to the people of China and Nigeria. We look forward to continued collaboration and mutual growth in the years ahead.”

This year, the Chinese New Year falls on January 29, culminating with the Lantern Festival on February 12.

More than 2 billion people, representing over one-sixth of the world’s population, celebrate this festival, while sixteen countries observe the Lunar New Year with public holidays, celebrations, and family reunions.

In December 2024, UNESCO recognized the Spring Festival as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
