By  Milcah  Tanimu

The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology has launched the iSTEP Programme (Innovations in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Policy). The programme aims to support youth-driven innovation and promote economic transformation in Nigeria.

The launch followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and Humanity Advancement Innovation Network (HAIN) in Abuja.

iSTEP to Train 10,000 Innovators Across 200 LGAs

Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, announced that iSTEP will train and certify 10,000 youth innovators in 200 local government areas over the next two years.

Nnaji emphasized that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on job creation, economic diversification, and inclusive development.

“The iSTEP Programme’s objectives are ambitious and impactful. It will drive Nigeria’s economic growth through innovation,” Nnaji said.

Key Goals of the iSTEP Programme

  1. 2,500 Youth-Led Enterprises: The programme aims to foster innovative startups that will contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
  2. 5,000 New Jobs: iSTEP will help reduce unemployment by empowering youth in tech-driven businesses.
  3. Innovation Academies & Hubs: Six Innovation Academies and three iSTECH City Hubs will support agriculture, energy, and industrial development.
  4. Food Security & Green Innovation: The programme will promote sustainable agricultural practices to boost food security.

HAIN Chairman Supports iSTEP Initiative

Daniel Olasetemi, Chairman of Humanity Advancement Innovation Network (HAIN), praised the initiative. He believes it will transform Nigeria’s innovation landscape and drive economic progress.

“This programme will create opportunities for young Nigerians to innovate and launch businesses. We are excited to partner with the government,” Olasetemi said.

The iSTEP Programme is set to reshape Nigeria’s technological future, fostering tech-driven entrepreneurs and boosting the country’s global competitiveness.
