Abia PDP Lawmaker, Supporters Defect to Labour Party

By Abigail Philip David

A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Dennis Chinwendu, representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party (LP), along with his supporters.

Governor Alex Otti welcomed Chinwendu and his team at a gathering in Umuoba, Isiala Ngwa South local government area, emphasizing LP’s inclusive nature and commitment to good governance.

“Honourable Chinwendu, we are happy to have you and your supporters join our party. In the Labour Party, we do not discriminate—everyone is given equal status, whether they joined today or years ago,” Otti stated.

The governor assured them of full integration into the party, citing his own political journey as proof of LP’s fairness.

In his remarks, Chinwendu said his decision to join LP was driven by Otti’s leadership and transformational agenda, which he believes has positively reshaped Abia State in less than two years. He assured the governor of continued support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also present at the event were former Isiala Ngwa North/South federal lawmaker Darlington Nwokocha and his successor, Ginger Onwusoibe.

A key moment of the gathering was the official presentation of the LP flag to Chinwendu and his supporters by the party’s local chairman, Smart Ogbonna.
