The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike in the spirit of human kindness has footed the medical bills of victims of the tanker explosion which occurred on Wednesday evening at Karu bridge, along Nyanyan- Mararaba road.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, Wike has sympathized the families of victims who lost their lives, and directed the continued treatment of injured people.
The minister said it was painful that precious lives were lost and vehicles were destroyed in an accident that could have been avoided.
The minister has directed the Mandate Secretary for Health and Environment, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe to ensure that victims get prompt treatment of victims.

The statement read, “On my directive, the Mandate Secretary on Health and Environment, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe has since been at the Asokoro District Hospital, and she joined the medical personnel in attending to the 17 casualties brought to the hospital.”

According to Olayinka, “Fasawe had briefed the FCT minister on the condition of the victims. “Seven of the 17 casualties were referred to National Hospital, six with minor injuries were treated successfully, three with severe burns and inhalation and crush injuries are currently receiving treatment.”

“Unfortunately, a victim one with third degree burns passed away while being resuscitated,” she said.

The minister has admonished road users, particularly heavy duty vehicle drivers to always be cautious and adhere strictly to speed limits while driving,

Wike called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other agencies saddled with the responsibility of ensuring safe usage of the roads to intensify efforts aimed at maintaining strict compliance with traffic rules.
