Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in their second match of the NWFL Super Six in Ikenne. The match was evenly contested, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.
The first 45 minutes ended goalless, despite both teams’ efforts to break the deadlock. Nasarawa Amazons dominated possession, but Bayelsa Queens’ defense held strong.
The game took a dramatic turn in the 55th minute when Bayelsa Queens defender Jennifer Oliver was given a red card for handling a goal-bound ball inside the six-yard box. Nasarawa Amazons were awarded a penalty, which Janet Akekoromowei converted to put her team ahead.
Despite being down to 10 players, Bayelsa Queens continued to press for an equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when Dooshima Tarnum, a second-half substitute, scored from a free-kick.
The draw took both teams to four points, with Nasarawa Amazons second and Bayelsa Queens third due to their superior goal difference.
Bayelsa Queens’ Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, attributed the penalty and red card to disrupting their game plan. However, he praised his team’s resilience in securing a draw with 10 players.
Bayelsa Queens will face Remo Stars Ladies, who are top of the table with six points, in Matchday 3 of the NWFL Super Six. The match is scheduled for 4 pm tomorrow
