Piqued over continued attacks on Tiv communities by Herdsmen, the Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC), has given Herdsmen a ten-day ultimatum to vacate Tiv farmlands.
The council, chaired by the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Prof James Ayatse, made this declaration during its emergency meeting held at the palace in Gboko, Benue State.
In a communique issued at the meeting and made available to the press by the council’s Secretary, Shinyi Tyozua, it implores all herders living within Tiv kingdom to leave immediately, warning that failure to comply would lead to further conflicts and exacerbate the looming hunger in Nigeria.
According to the communique, the Tiv Area Traditional Council, has directed political and traditional leaders in each of the 14 Local Government Areas of Tiv kingdom to peacefully engage herders to ensure their exit on or before Saturday May 31, 2025.
The council stressed that farming activities in the kingdom have ceased following the occupation of farmlands by herders for grazing and attacks and killings of farmers, maintaining that if the situation continue, it will result to hunger in Tiv kingdom.
Local Government Area affected by the attacks include; Logo, Guma, Kwande, Buruku, Gwer East, Gwer West, Makurdi, Katsina-Ala and Ukum, respectively.
