Bayelsa Gears Up for Thrilling Prosperity Cup Finals

The curtains are set to draw on the 2025 Bayelsa Governor’s Cup, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup, with the highly anticipated finals slated for Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on June 13, 2025. 

The tournament has sent shockwaves of excitement throughout the state, with football enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the thrilling conclusion.

Speaking with newsmen at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Director General of the tournament, Ono Akpe, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s progress. 

He stated that the competition has been a game-changer for grassroots football in Bayelsa State, with 231 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams participating across 26 community fields in eight local government areas.

Ono Akpe noted that a total prize pool of N50 million is up for grabs, with the men’s champions set to pocket N10 million and the women’s winners N5 million. 

He said the tournament has not only showcased top-notch football but has also served as a talent incubator, with 37 players scouted for potential national and international opportunities.

The Prosperity Cup has also fostered community unity, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. 

Ono Akpe stressed that the tournament’s success is a testament to the power of football to unite and inspire communities.

The tournament will start on Thursday with the losers’ final, featuring Bayelsa Stars Queens FC against BYSCON Queens and Bayelsa United Feeders against Crusaders FC of Peretorugbene. 

He noted, Friday, June 13, 2025, the women’s final will feature Ezougha FC against Afini Ladies FC at 1 p.m., while the men’s final will pit EGM FC against Advance Dreams FA at 3 p.m.

Ono Akpe commended the participating teams, organizers, and supporters for their dedication and enthusiasm.

 He expressed gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for his unwavering support and vision for the tournament. 

He noted that the Prosperity Cup is yielding dividends, with many talented players emerging from the competition to join top-tier clubs.

The stage is set for an unforgettable showdown in Yenagoa, with high-profile dignitaries expected to attend, including Governor Douye Diri, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, and National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko.

In addition to the thrilling matches, the finals will also feature other exciting activities. Premium Trust Bank will donate a bus to Bayelsa United, and the Bayelsa Queens will display their Super Six trophy, enhancing the occasion’s grandeur.

The tournament director general expressed gratitude to the tournament’s partners, particularly Premium Trust Bank, for their support, which has underpinned the prize money and logistics. He also commended the community for their enthusiasm and support for the tournament.

The tournament has not only promoted football but has also brought economic benefits to the host communities. The finals are expected to attract a large crowd, with fans and supporters flocking to Samson Siasia Stadium to witness the thrilling conclusion of the tournament.
