Manchester United Confirm Matheus Cunha Signing from Wolves on Five-Year Deal

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, securing the 26-year-old on a five-year contract until June 2030, with an option for a further year.

The transfer, confirmed via the club’s website on Thursday, marks United’s first major acquisition of the summer transfer window as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.

Cunha, who caught the eye with his performances for Wolves in the Premier League, described the move to Old Trafford as a dream come true.

“It’s hard to express how I feel becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha said. “Growing up in Brazil, I watched Premier League matches at my grandmother’s house, and United was always my favourite English club. To now wear the red shirt is a dream fulfilled. I’m grateful to my family and everyone who’s helped me reach this moment.”

Looking ahead, Cunha said he is eager to get started.

“I’m excited for pre-season to begin so I can meet my new teammates and settle into the squad. My full focus is on working hard, contributing to the team, and helping United return to the top.”

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, welcomed the signing, calling Cunha a perfect fit for the club’s attacking philosophy.

“Matheus was one of our top targets this summer, so we’re thrilled to complete the deal early,” Wilcox said. “He’s shown he can thrive in the Premier League and previously impressed in Spain and Germany. His pace, creativity, and work ethic are exactly what we’re looking for as we aim to build a competitive, exciting team capable of challenging for top honours.”

Cunha’s arrival is seen as a strategic boost to United’s front line, following a disappointing season in which the club struggled for consistency in attack. His versatility and proven ability in England’s top flight are expected to play a key role in the team’s resurgence under renewed leadership.

The Brazilian becomes the latest addition in what is anticipated to be a busy summer at Old Trafford, as United look to reinforce multiple areas ahead of the 2025/26 season.
