Super Eagles Can Still Qualify For 2026 World Cup – Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the team’s current standing.

Eguavoen, who briefly returned to manage the team on an interim basis following Finidi George’s resignation after just two matches, guided the Super Eagles to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before handing over to newly appointed permanent coach, Eric Chelle.

Nigeria currently sits fourth in their World Cup qualifying group and must win all remaining matches to stand a chance of claiming the group’s sole ticket to the global tournament.

“It’s a tight rope we’re walking, but everything is possible,” Eguavoen told ACL Sports. “With the boys we have now and every Nigerian coming together, it is doable. I’m 100% sure because the players want to be at the World Cup.”

He added, “I’m not looking back at the last game. I’m focused on the next one. That’s the mindset—take it one game at a time and treat every match like a final.”
