NTAC Director-General Receives Honorary Doctoral Fellowship for Excellence in Leadership

By Jabiru Hassan

The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctoral Fellowship by the Emergency Crisis and Risk Management Institute.

The prestigious award recognizes Dr. Yakub’s exceptional leadership, competence, and professionalism in steering NTAC’s mission of providing technical aid and humanitarian support to African, Pacific, and Caribbean countries.

Since its establishment in 1987, NTAC has deployed over 10,000 Nigerian volunteers to more than 40 countries — a feat attributed to the robust leadership of Dr. Yakub.

The Emergency Crisis and Risk Management Institute, known for its focus on capacity building, research, and professional development in emergency response, commended Dr. Yakub’s outstanding character and dedication to public service.

The award presentation took place during a courtesy visit to the NTAC Complex by a delegation led by the Institute’s Director-General, Dr. Chuks Akawo. He expressed appreciation for NTAC’s participation in a recent conference and highlighted opportunities for collaboration, including postgraduate and PhD programmes offered by the Institute.

The visiting team included Mr. Dieudonné Nikiema, Manager of the ECOWAS Peace Fund, and Rev. Stephen A. O. Paul, a Fellow of the Institute.

NTAC’s management team also attended the event, including Ambassador Yakubu Abdullahi Ahmed (Director of Administration), Ambassador Zakari Usman (Director of Programmes), Mrs. Meimunat Haruna-Mustapha (Deputy Director, Head of Accounts), Alhaji Adekola Lawal (Assistant Director, Head of Internal Audit), and Mr. Debo Fehintola, among others.

In his remarks, Dr. Yakub expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed NTAC’s readiness to partner with the Emergency Crisis and Risk Management Institute and other like-minded institutions.

He emphasized NTAC’s core mandate of deploying Nigerian professionals to countries with critical skill gaps and assured the delegation that NTAC remains committed to fostering peace, safety, and sustainable development.

The conferment of the honorary fellowship not only celebrates Dr. Yakub’s personal accomplishments but also highlights the contributions of NTAC under the current administration toward national development and resilience.

Both NTAC and the Institute expressed optimism for a fruitful and long-term partnership.
