The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a firm warning to contractors handling ongoing projects across the territory, insisting that the June deadline for completion and handover will not be extended.Wike gave the directive on Wednesday during an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects in Abuja, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work by some contractors.
He stressed that all projects slated for commissioning must be delivered on schedule, in line with the administration’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure for residents. According to him, the June timeline remains sacrosanct, and any contractor who fails to meet the agreed deadline will face sanctions.
The minister urged contractors to intensify efforts, deploy adequate resources, and ensure round-the-clock work to meet expectations.“You remember we have said that we are doing all we can for Mr. President to inaugurate most of these projects in his third year anniversary,” he said.
Speaking on a project in Wuse handled by Levante, Wike acknowledged the quality of work but expressed displeasure over delays. “Yes, I am satisfied with the quality of the job, but I’m not happy with the company. We agreed that by the end of May or June, that job will be delivered. But what we heard today was different. I’m not going to accept that,” he stated.
He added that he had directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to ensure the contractor accelerates work and meets the agreed timeline, with delivery expected by the second week of June.
During the tour, the minister inspected the N16 Interchange being handled by CGC Construction, as well as road projects around key institutions and research centres near the Body of Benchers, Nile University, and Baze University, executed by CCECC Construction. He also visited the Tundu Madaki Bridge linking Bill Clinton Drive on Airport Road to the Zuba axis.
Wike further disclosed plans to inaugurate satellite water projects in Bwari, Karu, and Orozo as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “You are aware that we are also going to inaugurate the satellite water projects being carried out by CGC in Bwari, Karu, and Orozo. By the grace of God, they will be ready for inauguration during Mr. President’s third anniversary,” he said
