By Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has been commended for her worker-friendly disposition and efforts in improving the work environment for civil servants in the state.

The commendation was made by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, during a one-day capacity-building workshop and congress held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy in Yenagoa.

Former NUJ State Council Chairman, Comrade Tarinyo Akono, and the current Chairman of the Information Chapel, Pastor Wanama Dandyson, in their separate remarks, praised Hon. Koku-Obiyai for her commitment to revitalizing the ministry. They cited the renovation of the Information House and the provision of new office furniture as notable achievements under her leadership.

The union also expressed appreciation to the NUJ State Council Chairman, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, for his consistent financial and moral support to the chapel’s activities.

The workshop, themed “The Role of an Information Officer: Responsibilities and Best Practices,” focused on enhancing the skills of participants in areas such as Effective News Writing and Reporting, Content Creation and Modern-Day Journalism, and Tips on Anchoring a Program.

Pastor Dandyson noted that the training was aimed at boosting the professional capacity of Information Officers in the ministry, stressing that journalism is a dynamic field that requires ongoing professional development.

Facilitators at the workshop included Mr. Ade Bakare, Director of the Strategy Department; Dr. Sophia Obi, Director of Public Enlightenment; and Mr. Chris Odi, a retired Director in the Ministry.
