On Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, the Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education flagged off the distribution of ATM cards to eligible JSS 1 and SS 1 students under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Scholarship for Girls, a program initiated by the state government in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
The Hon. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, was represented at the event by the Director of Donor Agencies, Lawali Haliru Mu’azu. He urged parents to ensure the CCT funds are used strictly for the purpose intended—supporting the education of their children—and encouraged students to remain focused and committed to their studies.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of the AGILE Project, Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, cautioned parents to prioritize their children’s education by using the funds appropriately.
The CCT Component Lead, Mamuda Galadima, clarified that only students who are duly registered and punctual are eligible for the scholarship. He also noted that while the ATM cards have been distributed, the accounts currently hold no funds. The official disbursement will be flagged off next week by the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, Inshaa Allah.
Also present at the event was Hajiya Jamila Dan Ute, a Permanent Member of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who delivered a goodwill message.
The flag-off ceremony was held at Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS) Tudun Wada and Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Dambuwa.
