Four PDP Senators Dump Party, Join APC

Four senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the APC’s majority in the Senate.

The defecting lawmakers are:

  • Sampson Ekong (Akwa Ibom South)
  • Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North-East)
  • Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East)
  • Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central)

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read their individual letters of defection during Tuesday’s plenary session.

With this latest development, the APC now holds 72 seats in the Senate, cementing its lead as the majority party in the upper legislative chamber.
