Igbo Community Throws Weight Behind Mutfwang for 2027

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The President General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA) in Jos, Chief Mike Okunonke, has declared the community’s unwavering support for the re-election of Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in the 2027 governorship election.

Chief Okunonke said the endorsement was in recognition of Governor Mutfwang’s impressive performance, which he described as marked by transparency, accountability, and an inclusive governance style that has positively impacted both urban and rural communities across the state.

He made the remarks during the governor’s condolence visit to Amb. Nelson Mkparu, Chief Executive Officer of NELMACO Global Resources and a leading pipe manufacturer based in Jos, over the passing of his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Mkparu.

The ICA President General described Governor Mutfwang as “a people-focused leader whose commitment to development and security has improved the quality of life for all residents, including the Igbo community.”

Chief Okunonke recalled that the Igbo community in Plateau State voted overwhelmingly for Mutfwang in the 2023 election and had no regrets, citing the governor’s strides in infrastructure, security, and creating a business-friendly environment.

“The Igbos are deeply grateful to Governor Mutfwang. Roads like Apata, which had been abandoned for over a decade, were rehabilitated within months of his assumption of office. From Utan Road to Namua, Jenta Adamu, and many other critical infrastructure projects, work is ongoing across the state. Our people feel safer, more secure, and fully included in the development agenda of this administration,” he stated.

He also commended the governor for his personal condolence visit, noting that the gesture brought immense comfort to both the bereaved family and the wider Igbo community in Jos.

“Your visit is not only a show of solidarity but also a reflection of your humility and genuine love for our people,” he added. “The peaceful and enabling environment your administration has cultivated encourages us to continue seeing Plateau as home. We are ready to reward your good governance with massive votes come 2027.”

In his response, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation for the Igbo community’s enduring commitment to peace, harmony, and development in Plateau State, acknowledging their contributions to the state’s stability and progress.

“The Igbo community is one of the stabilizing forces on the Plateau. You have consistently demonstrated dedication to development and peaceful coexistence. I’m not saying this to score political points—your impact is visible and deeply appreciated,” the governor said.

He assured the community that his administration would continue to recognize and value their contributions, adding that investments by members like Amb. Mkparu reflect their confidence in Plateau’s future.

“It is heartwarming to see that many of you have chosen to call Plateau home and are investing billions here. We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with progressive-minded individuals and communities like yours,” he affirmed.

Governor Mutfwang further pledged that the Igbo community would continue to enjoy a pride of place in the state’s socio-economic and political affairs.

“We value your friendship, your enterprise, and your commitment. By the grace of God, we will continue to build a Plateau that works for all,” he concluded.
