Northern Activist, Comrade Ejembi, Declares Support for #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Kaduna-based human rights activist and Chief Executive Officer of the Eagle’s Brain Human Rights Organization, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, has declared his intention to join the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Comrade Ejembi, known for leading recent protests against the alleged illegal acquisition and construction on Kaduna Polytechnic land, disclosed his decision in a chat with journalists on Saturday evening.

The activist, who has a large grassroots following and has faced multiple court cases over his advocacy efforts, confirmed that he would participate in the demonstration aimed at securing the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“I will also be part of it,” Ejembi stated, expressing full support for the movement tagged #MNKOct20.

Prominent activist Omoyele Sowore had earlier announced the upcoming protest via his verified social media handles, revealing that Nigerians from within and outside the country are mobilizing to demand Kanu’s unconditional release.

Sowore described the campaign as “a powerfully uniting movement,” emphasizing that participants are not mobilizing along ethnic or partisan lines but as “citizens united by conscience, courage, and justice.”

“People are flying into Nigeria from across the world, while others are journeying from every corner of the country to join the historic march to the Aso Rock Villa on October 20, 2025,” Sowore wrote.

Meanwhile, Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, also called on Nigerians to resist what he termed the “illegal and unconstitutional” prosecution of his client.

In a statement to journalists on Saturday, Ejimakor maintained that the Nigerian government lost the legal authority to prosecute Kanu after his extraordinary rendition from Kenya, likening the act to the botched 1984 kidnapping of Umaru Dikko.

He argued that the continued trial amounts to “a grave state crime” and warned that those advocating a “fair trial” for Kanu were inadvertently legitimizing an unlawful process.

Ejimakor urged Nigerians, civil society organizations, and political leaders to support the #MNKOct20 campaign and join the demand for Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release.
