Delta APC Passes Confidence Vote, Endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori for 2027 Elections

By Anne Azuka

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Sunday passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made during a well-attended APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The gathering brought together top party leaders, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, and political heavyweights from Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded by Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.

Keyamo commended President Tinubu for his “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” describing the removal of fuel subsidy as a responsible policy decision that redirected national savings into critical infrastructure.

“Just two days ago, Mr. President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of the Warri Port, among other key national projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the rebuilding of Lagos Airport. These are direct results of savings from subsidy removal,” he stated.

Keyamo also praised Governor Oborevwori for his developmental strides across Delta State, noting that his leadership had strengthened the party’s position ahead of 2027.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude to APC stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and President Tinubu, pledging continued delivery on his development agenda.

“I want to thank you for the confidence reposed in us and for accepting us as sole candidates for 2027. The APC is growing stronger daily, and more governors will join us before the end of November,” he said.

The Governor lauded President Tinubu’s leadership as one that “rewards loyalty, commitment, and results,” warning against disloyalty within the party.

“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we’ll expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,” Oborevwori said.

Highlighting ongoing projects, the Governor mentioned the N59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover, N39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the forthcoming Warri–Sapele Road rehabilitation. He emphasized that Delta remains one of the few states not owing contractors, attributing this to prudent resource management.

Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, described the April 28, 2025, mass defection into the APC as a “turning point in the state’s political history.” He praised both Tinubu and Oborevwori for uniting the party and fostering development.

“Joining the APC was the right step in the right direction. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.

APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, echoed similar sentiments, describing the party as “formidable and unstoppable,” while warning that anyone planning to contest against Oborevwori “will meet a brick wall.”

Other speakers, including Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu, declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031,” pledging continued support for the Governor and the President.

Former National Women Leader, Hon. Stella Okotete, urged greater inclusion of women in the party’s leadership, emphasizing that women make up over 51 percent of the voting population.

As the meeting concluded, party leaders reaffirmed their unity and commitment to delivering victory for President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori in 2027, with a renewed sense of solidarity and purpose.
