Delta Governor Urges NYSC Corps Members to Uphold Discipline, Patriotism as 2025 Batch C Orientation Begins

By Anne Azuka

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged newly deployed NYSC corps members to uphold discipline, loyalty, dedication, and patriotism as they begin their one-year national service in the state. He gave the charge on Thursday during the Swearing-In Ceremony for the 2025 Batch C corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Trakiriowei Harry ThankGod, the governor encouraged the corps members to shun negative behaviours and embrace values that promote national development.

He said Nigeria urgently requires “men and women who will drive development through honesty, innovation, and strength of character,” stressing that young people must take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.

Oborevwori, who officially declared the 2025 Batch C Orientation Course open, assured the corps members that the state government would continue to meet its obligations to the NYSC to ensure a meaningful and productive service year.

The governor disclosed that his administration had approved the construction of a perimeter fence at the camp to curb vandalism and enhance security, alongside upgrades to other key facilities. He added that the projects would be completed and ready for use before the next service year.

He commended the NYSC management in Delta State for its commitment to the goals of the scheme, especially its posting policy, which prioritises deploying corps members to schools, hospitals, financial institutions, and agencies that directly address the state’s development needs.

“This posting approach has significantly complemented government efforts toward rural development,” he said, urging NYSC officials to remain steadfast in driving the scheme’s objectives.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, announced that 2,009 prospective corps members had been registered at the close of registration on Thursday. The group comprises 889 males and 1,120 females, all fully kitted and prepared to take the Oath of Allegiance.

Kwaghe encouraged the corps members to view their deployment to Delta State as an opportunity to contribute to the developmental strides and youth-focused policies of the Oborevwori administration.

He expressed appreciation for the governor’s continued support to the NYSC, noting recent interventions such as the perimeter fence project and the completion of the internal road network with drainages.

“These efforts have significantly enhanced our operations and improved the aesthetics of the orientation camp,” the coordinator stated.

The 2025 Batch C Orientation Course continues with drills, lectures, and community development activities designed to prepare corps members for their roles in national service.
