Edo Women Encourage Orphans to Dream Big

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

A group, the Association of Dynamic Edo Women Worldwide (DEWWA), Abuja Chapter has encouraged orphans to rise above their humble beginnings by aspiring to greatness through hard work and faith.

The group gave this charge during a recent visit to the City of Refuge Orphanage in Durumi, Abuja, to cheer the children during the Christmas season.

The group, led by the chapter’s coordinator, Mrs. Rosemary Ebhodaghe, said that the aim of the visit was also to encourage the orphans not to let their circumstances define their future.

“Many successful people today started from humble beginnings. “With hard work and determination, you too can achieve greatness,” Ebhodaghe said.

Mrs. Judith Ogedengbe, the association’s secretary, who emphasized the importance of commitment and making wise career choices, also provided guidance on necessary subjects for different professions, urging the children to stay focused on their goals.

The Public Relations Officer, DEWWA, Mrs. Stella Ojeme, advised the children on choosing the right friends. “Bad company can derail your dreams,” she warned, encouraging them to seek mentorship from trustworthy adults.

Mrs. Joan Osunbor, the Financial Secretary, stressed the power of faith, urging the children to stay prayerful and avoid negative influences like drugs and cultism.

The orphanage’s matron, representing the manager. Mr. Darlington expressed gratitude for the visit and the donated food items.

She noted that the Durumi branch of the orphanage houses 50 orphans, between the ages of 10 and 20, with many of them now in secondary schools and universities.

DEWWA, a global philanthropic group of Edo women, is dedicated to empowering the less privileged. The Abuja Chapter is led by Mrs. Rosemary Ebhodaghe, under the national leadership of Hon. Bose Ihaza.
