5 Foods you can try this Christmas other than rice

Christmas is by the corner!!! And of course is all preparation for feasting. Rice is a common meal in most Nigerian homes during Christmas. However, you can change things a bit this year by feasting on a different meal this year.
So, here are 5 other foods you can try this Christmas:

Moi Moi, Salad, Fried Plantain and Fresh Fish Stew:

Moi Moi is a special pudding made from Nigerian brown beans wrapped and steamed in special leaves with bell peppers, onions, fish, palm oil and some spices.
Moi Moi is eaten mostly in Southern Nigeria and is rich in protein; it is a Nigerian dish that is nutty flavored and considered as a staple food, and usually served as a side dish with cereal or rice. In other to make a healthy combo for the festive season, Moi Moi blends well with a properly prepared salad, fried plantain, and fresh fish stew to compliment the taste. It is a “must eat” this Christmas.

Beans and Plantain:

Beans and plantain are the charming princes of Nigerian cuisine. It is a popular dish among Nigerians but not known to pass as a meal for festive celebrations. This combo is a total package with its unique taste and the special way it satisfies. When the plantain is paired with beans, cooked and spiced with palm oil, fresh pepper, onions, and other ingredients, the taste will take you to the sixth heaven.

Pepper Soup:

Pepper soup is one of the most popular food in Nigeria. It is a dish that is mostly known to be eaten to celebrate or to have a good downtime with family and friends. To a foreigner, pepper soup might sound like a brown plate of misery and diarrhea but to a Nigerian, it is the real deal. It is highly spiced with pepper, ginger, garlic, and some local condiments to give a unique taste. There are different kinds of pepper soup, each with a unique taste. Some of them are; catfish pepper soup, Chicken pepper soup, Turkey pepper soup, Goat meat pepper soup, Bushmeat pepper soup among others. It can go with Cornmeal.

Banga:

Banga(Palm-nut) soup is particularly common the people from the Delta region of Nigeria. A very special soup indeed made through the pounding and boiling of palm nuts whose extracts are used to make the soup. Banga is highly rich in taste and very creamy. Due to the region’s proximity to the sea, the soup is usually filled a lot of seafood and properly cooked to taste. Although Banga can be eaten with any swallow, the best to have it with is Starch.

Miyan Taushe and Tuwo Shinkafa:

Tuwo is also known as “rice fufu” because it is made from rice rather than cassava as is the case with other swallows like Eba, fufu, and others. Miyan Taushe is a very delicious Nigerian dish to date. It is very popular in Northern Nigeria and made from pumpkin fruit. The soup which also contains ground peanuts, spices together with the sorrel leaf is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy.
Quit eating rice this Christmas and try any of these exciting dish, you will be in for a treat.
