Several travellers are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, reportedly confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Saturday, saying details were still sketchy.
“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but the incident just happened. I can’t give details yet. I will update you later,” he was quoted as saying in a telephone interview.
However, efforts by Press Online to reach the police spokesperson for independent confirmation were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media allegedly show the aftermath of the explosion, with travellers seen fleeing the area in panic.
Reacting to the incident, an X user, Nuhu Sada (@NuhuSada0), a former SDP candidate for the Zaria Kewaye Constituency in the 2025 Kaduna State House of Assembly bye-election, described the incident as a tragic attack on innocent travellers.
“Another tragic attack on innocent travelers in Zamfara. Families are grieving, lives are lost, and property destroyed. Security agencies must act quickly to prevent further harm and bring those responsible to justice,” he posted.
Another user, @DanKatsina50, also reported the explosion, alleging that the blast may have been caused by an improvised explosive device planted by bandits, though casualties are yet to be officially confirmed.
As of the time of this report, security agencies have not released further details on the cause of the explosion or the number of casualties.
