United States forward Trinity Rodman has become the world’s highest-paid female footballer after signing a new three-year contract with Washington Spirit, her agent has confirmed.
The 23-year-old attacker had been a free agent after her previous deal with the NWSL club expired on December 31, 2025. According to BBC Sport, the new agreement is worth about $2 million per year, including bonuses, and will keep her with the Spirit until 2028.
Rodman described the deal as “amazing,” calling it a “monumental and game-changing moment” for her career.
The contract surpasses previous records in the women’s game, with Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí — a three-time Ballon d’Or winner — previously regarded as the highest earner.
The deal comes after the National Women’s Soccer League introduced a new “High Impact Player” rule in December 2025, allowing clubs to spend up to $1 million above the salary cap on elite players. The league’s 2025 salary cap stood at $3.5 million per team.
Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang said Rodman represents the future of the club and women’s football.
Rodman joined the Spirit in 2021, helping the club win the NWSL Championship in her rookie season and earning Rookie of the Year honours. She has made 47 appearances for the United States national team, scoring 11 goals, and won Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
She is the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman.
