CROSSJOF Praise Sen. John Owan Enoh’s MSME Initiative in Cross River

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Cross River State Journalists Forum, (CROSSJOF) Abuja, has praised the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (FMITI), Senator John Owan Enoh, for implementation of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Programme Initiative in Cross River State.

In 2025, renowned activist and media personality Agba Jalingo had introduced an empowerment program that teaches beneficiaries how to “fish instead of giving them fish”, away from the usual way of distributing motorcycles and tricycles popularly called ‘Keke Napeps.

In a statement issued and signed on Wednesday in Abuja by CROSSJOF Chairman Francisca Ogar, the Forum described Senator John Owan Enoh’s (JOE) Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Support Programme as a good incentive to empower Cross Riverians from all walks of life.

“As the name indicates, this programme is the brainchild of Senator John Owan Enoh the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, with the objective of empowering Cross Riverians in the formal and informal sectors.

The first and second phases of the MSME programme targets 950 beneficiaries, 475 beneficiaries per phase, while phases three and four are underway.

Deserving beneficiaries would go through a compulsory one week training at the Enterprise Development Centers, EDC, in Ikom and Ogoja in Calabar.

After the completion of the
one-week training, beneficiaries have options of receiving between N100,000 and N500,000, N150,000 each, or collecting items required for their businesses.

CROSSJOF also commended Sen. John Owan Enoh and Jalingo for ensuring an inclusive selection of beneficiaries and people with disabilities ( PWDs) that is transparent and seamless.

The Executive Committee and members of the Cross River State Journalists Forum (CROSSJOF) further commend the Minister for adopting this ingenuity in empowering the masses of the State.
