APC Chairman Yilwatda, Governor Mutfwang Appear Together at Plateau Party Event After Past Rivalry

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang have publicly affirmed cooperation following their rivalry in the 2023 governorship election. Yilwatda, who contested the election on the APC platform and lost to Mutfwang, accepted the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the governor’s victory. At the time, he congratulated Mutfwang and urged supporters to remain peaceful.

The two politicians later appeared together at APC events in Plateau State, including the launch of the party’s electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise in Langtang North and other locations in January 2026. Speaking at one of the events, Yilwatda said their past contest would not prevent collaboration. “Although we once contested against each other, we are now united,” he told party members.

At a separate APC reception attended by senior party officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yilwatda presented the party flag to Mutfwang and described the development as a move aimed at strengthening party unity in the state.

Governor Mutfwang had earlier referred to Yilwatda as a “brother” and cautioned supporters against actions that could create divisions, emphasising the need for cooperation in governance.

Party leaders at the events said the joint appearances signalled efforts to consolidate APC structures in Plateau State and coordinate political activities ahead of future elections.
