KGIRS Conducts Promotion Examination for 340 Staff in Kogi

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to staff training and timely promotion as part of efforts to boost productivity and strengthen public service delivery. The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Revenue Generation, Dr Nasir Rahman Ichanyi, gave the assurance on Saturday at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, during a promotion examination organised by the **Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) for 340 staff members.

Dr Ichanyi said continuous training and promotion remain essential tools for motivating workers, particularly in revenue-generating agencies that support the state’s development agenda. He noted that staff promotion enhances responsibility and performance, adding that the government would continue to ensure workers are promoted when due.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise while acknowledging room for improvement, urging KGIRS management to maintain inclusive engagement with staff to strengthen ownership and revenue performance.In his remarks, the Director of Administration and ICT at KGIRS, Alex Akande, said the examination was one of three stages in the promotion process, alongside oral interviews and performance appraisal. He explained that the exercise is conducted annually for eligible staff to encourage continuous learning and professional growth.

Also speaking, the consultant on promotion and training, Prof. John Alabi, said the examination covered four staff categories: managers, revenue officers, drivers, and cameramen. He described KGIRS as a proactive agency that has consistently conducted promotion exercises over the past five years.
