By Francis Wilfred

The Federal Government has reaffirmed the strategic importance of Nigeria’s engagement with Türkiye, following a recent official visit by the Honourable Minister of Interior alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

According to a press release issued by Mrs. Mary Ali, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, the visit focused on deepening cooperation in critical areas including security, migration management, border control, law enforcement capacity building and institutional collaboration, while also advancing the shared goal of expanding Nigeria–Türkiye bilateral trade to $5 billion.

The statement noted that the engagements were guided by clear implementation frameworks, mutual accountability and measurable outcomes, all aligned with Nigeria’s national security architecture and broader economic priorities.

It added that the strengthened partnership is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to combat transnational crime, irregular migration and internal security challenges, while also unlocking new opportunities in trade, technology transfer and skills development.

The government further appreciated public engagement and constructive feedback on the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to translating bilateral agreements into tangible outcomes that will boost national security, drive economic growth and strengthen public confidence in government institutions.

The statement emphasized that through sustained diplomacy and responsible governance, Nigeria remains committed to securing a safer and more prosperous future for its citizens.
