Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has made history as the first African female artist to achieve seven entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
She reached this milestone after her song “What You Need” debuted at No. 93 on the chart this week. The new entry raises her total appearances on the prestigious chart to seven.
With this achievement, Tems now shares a three-way tie for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries by an African act alongside fellow Nigerian star Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether.
Tems previously made headlines in 2022 when she became the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The record came through her feature on “Wait for U,” a collaboration with Future and Drake.
Adding to the momentum, “Bunce Road Blues” by J. Cole, featuring Tems and Future, is expected to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
Tems’ latest milestone further solidifies her position as one of Africa’s most globally influential music stars.
