By Israel Adamu, Jos

No fewer than 1,378 rural women in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State have received food items and cash assistance through an empowerment programme organised by the CHAYAH Hope Foundation. The outreach, held at the Kanke LGA headquarters, targeted widows, single mothers, elderly women and other vulnerable residents across the local government’s wards.

The initiative was led by the founder of the foundation, Dr. Martina Nentawe Yilwatda, who said the programme aligns with the organisation’s mission to support vulnerable populations through welfare assistance, skills development, healthcare and economic empowerment. She explained that rural women remain central to the stability of families and communities, stressing that targeted support can help them overcome economic challenges and improve their livelihoods.

“Rural women are the backbone of many communities, and providing structured support can strengthen families and local economies,” she said. According to organisers, the distribution was conducted in an orderly manner with volunteers managing registration and logistics, while security personnel ensured smooth coordination. Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance, describing it as timely amid current economic pressures.

Community leaders also commended the initiative, noting that programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable groups can help strengthen social support systems in rural communities.
