Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the resumed hearing of his bail application.
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises around 9:00 a.m., drawing the attention of security personnel and observers as proceedings continued under tight security.
The hearing follows earlier proceedings that were adjourned after a series of legal filings by the defence and prosecution delayed consideration of the bail request.
During the previous session, the defence team filed a motion asking the presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, to recuse himself over allegations of bias linked to a pending petition. The application was later withdrawn, prompting further legal exchanges between both parties.
The prosecution also submitted a counter-affidavit opposing the bail application, requiring the defence to respond before the court could proceed.
Justice Aikawa adjourned the matter to allow both sides address the issues raised, leading to Wednesday’s resumed hearing.
Security was heightened around the court, with armed personnel restricting access to the premises. Journalists were denied entry into the courtroom as authorities enforced strict movement controls.
