Harry Maguire has insisted he remains among the world’s top defenders, saying his impact in both penalty areas still ranks at an elite level.
The Manchester United and England national team centre-back made the remarks in an interview with the BBC, expressing confidence in his performances despite ongoing criticism.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, Maguire said, “I still believe, even at my age, I’m arguably one of the best defenders in the world in both boxes.”
The England international highlighted his effectiveness in attacking and defending set-pieces as a major strength, noting that aerial ability and positioning remain key parts of his game.
Maguire has faced scrutiny at different stages of his career but continues to feature regularly for Manchester United while maintaining involvement with England’s squad. His comments come as he battles for playing time at club level and aims to remain in contention for future international tournaments.
Manchester United recently confirmed the defender has signed a new contract keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.
