2027: Delta Youth Group Calls on Former Gov. Okowa to Jettison Senatorial Aspiration

By Anne Azuka

The Coalition of Delta North Youths, a pan-senatorial movement representing diverse communities, has called on former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to jettison his ambition for a Senate seat in 2027.

The group made the call during a press briefing held at Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of , advising Okowa to give youths the opportunity to grow politically, particularly in Delta North.

They said they had no personal vendetta against the former governor but had observed with concern the political direction of the senatorial district, insisting that it was time for younger voices to take leadership roles.

The group stated that it would resist any attempt by any political party to field Okowa, describing him as someone who has “serially monopolised political power,” and declaring that the time had come to say “enough is enough.”

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Benjamin Atagana-Ofochi said the group had watched with concern as one individual dominated the political space in the district.

“We are not affiliated with any political vendetta, nor are we instruments of any political godfather. We are freeborn citizens of a democracy, and we intend to exercise every right that democracy confers upon us,” he said.

Kingsley Kainebi, another member of the coalition, said the call was meant to encourage political inclusiveness and youth participation, urging parties to conduct transparent primaries that allow credible candidates to emerge.

He added that the group would support any candidate who demonstrates commitment to the welfare of the people and promotes equity and inclusive governance in the senatorial district.

Another member, Agholor Okoh, Vice President of the Movement for the Emancipation of Anioma Nation, said the coalition rejects individuals who oppose the creation of Anioma State.

He noted that Delta North has many capable and visionary individuals ready to serve in political offices.

The coalition said it is made up of youth groups from all nine local government areas in Delta North Senatorial District.
