The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity, inclusion, and social development through strategic partnerships with organisations leveraging sports as a tool for progress.Speaking in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) on a courtesy visit, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions and credible associations in achieving broader governance objectives.
Tunji-Ojo, in a statement by the Head, Press and Public Relation, Mrs. Mary Ali, on Wednesday, noted that the Ministry of Interior remains focused on its core mandate of safeguarding internal security, ensuring citizenship integrity, and enhancing institutional efficiency. He added that partnerships with organisations like LGAN contribute meaningfully to these goals.
He commended the association for its role in advancing golf among women in Nigeria, describing it as instrumental in promoting discipline, leadership, and international representation.The minister also highlighted ongoing reforms across agencies under the Ministry, including improvements in passport administration and the deployment of modern e-gate systems at international airports, aimed at improving service delivery and restoring public confidence.
Earlier, LGAN President, Lami Onayi Ahmed, thanked the Minister for receiving the delegation despite his busy schedule. She outlined the association’s mission as the umbrella body for women golfers in Nigeria, focused on expanding participation and fostering capacity building, as well as enhancing international engagement.
Ahmed also praised the Minister’s reform agenda, particularly efforts to modernise processes within the Ministry, noting that they align with global best practices and Nigeria’s development aspirations.The Minister assured the association of continued government support for initiatives that empower women and promote sports development nationwide.
He urged members to continue serving as ambassadors of Nigeria by using sports to foster unity, national pride, and socio-economic growth.The visit ended with both parties expressing commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing shared national objectives.
