A socio-political group, Zawan Vanguard, has called for equitable zoning of political offices in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group made the call during a press briefing in Jos South, saying the move is aimed at promoting fairness, unity, and balanced political representation across communities in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Raphael Chuhwak said the demand was not intended to create division but to address long-standing concerns over perceived imbalance in political representation. According to the group, some communities in Jos South have remained underrepresented in key elective positions, a situation it said has affected trust and inclusive governance.
Zawan Vanguard proposed that the seat of the member representing Jos South in the Plateau State House of Assembly be zoned to Zawan, while the House of Representatives seat be allocated to Gyel. The group said such an arrangement would strengthen inclusion and ensure fair distribution of political opportunities. It urged political parties to consider and adopt zoning arrangements that reflect equity, while calling on stakeholders and community leaders to support inclusive representation.
Zawan Vanguard also encouraged youths and residents to actively engage in the political process and advocate fairness in leadership selection. The group maintained that balanced representation would promote unity, reduce tensions, and support development in Jos South.
