NAGGW to train women, youths on various skills

In a bid to reduce pressure on the use of land, cutting down of trees and other illegal environmental activities, National Agency for Great Green Wall, NAGGW, has unveiled plans to train and empower youths and women in Kano State.
Disclosing this to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, the Head, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Pauline Sule said women and youths would be trained on perfume, soap, tailoring and knitting, adding that this would make them financially stable without much pressure on the land, thereby fighting desert encroachment, land degradation and other environmental challenges caused by human activities on the environment.
The training, according to her, would be carried out in 11 frontline states starting with Kano and Jigawa.
In its five years plan, the agency is set to train and give out starter packs to 90 participants that were carefully identified from Kano and Jigawa States.
“The agency has carefully identified 55 communities out of 11 frontline states making five communities from each state to be trained and equipped with starter packs as soon as they complete their training,” Sule said.
She said the training became necessary as it will reduce rural poverty, diversify their income sources, create employment, reduce pressure on land resource, boost rural economy and curtail social unrest amongst others.
