Plateau Govt. commences N20,000 conditional cash transfer to over 60, 000 beneficiaries

The Plateau Government on Monday commenced Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) of N20,000 to more than 60,000 vulnerable citizens across the 17 local government areas  of the state.

Dr Sumaye Hamza, Special Adviser (SA) to Gov. Simon Lalong on National Social Investment programme (NSIP) disclosed this during a tour and supervision of the CCT at Sobolo Ward in Nassau Local Government Area.

Hamza, who is the State SIP Focal Person, described the exercise as “commendable” and “successful” considering the smooth transfer of the funds to the beneficiaries.

“This conditional cash transfer is being carried out simultaneously in all the 17 local government areas of Plateau.

“We in Plateau are appreciative of the good gesture of President Muhammadu Buhari who ordered this four

months payment to the vulnerable in the Nigerian society.

“The negative effect the dreaded Coronavirus pendemic has brought upon the economy and the citizens lives no one in doubt of the need for such a good gesture from the president, ” she said.

The SA assured, “we are determined to ensure that every eligible candidate received his or her cash without further delay.”

According to the focal person, “even those beneficiaries whose names were omitted last two months would receive their complete N30,000.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that among the beneficiaries at Sobolo Ward were a 78-year-old grandmother  and two blind people,

Mr Yakub Bala, One of the blind persons commended the government saying that “may God bless our president and Governor for considering us Worthy of this magnanimity and goodwill.”

Also speaking, Mr Desmond Onu, Head of CCT Task Force from Abuja, described the exercise as “very apt” and “satisfactory.”

Onu commended the State CCT staff for their courage and expertise in handling the cash transfers to the beneficiaries on the Plateau.
