Setup Covid-19 Test Kits At State Borders, Government Told

By Joseph ETTA in Calabar
Rivers State and other states that closed their borders have been advised to set up Corona Virus Test centres in their respective borders instead of outright closure of the borders.
Stephen Okparavero a Pharmacist of repute who was a victim of the border closure said this in Calabar, Cross River State.
Okparavero who is an Imo indigen but based in Calabar said he suffered untold hardship trying to re-enter Cross River State while coming back from Imo State where he had gone to attend a funeral.
His words ‘I am an Imo indigen but I am based here in Calabar. Recently, I went to Imo State to attend a burial but returning back into Cross River State, it was very difficult because of the Corona Virus pandemic.
In a chat with Daybreak, he disclosed that, at the Cross River/Akwa Ibom border, ‘I and about 400 people were debarred from entering Cross River State. All entreaties that I live in Calabar fell on the deaf ears of security men who closed the border’.
“We were about 400 people who wanted to enter CRS but the policemen wouldn’t allow us. They said we should go back. The policemen could not handle the crowd so they invited the Army add that, when the Army came, they started beating people”.
However, after several hours of waiting, we were finally granted entry into CRS – he added. Meanwhile, the Pharmacist opined that there should be COVID-19 Test centre at every state border to filter people into state instead of outright closure which is socially repulsive, economically unwise, energy and financially sapping. Instead, they should just put test kits there and whoever test positive should be then sent back or start receiving treatment immediately and those that test negative should be allow into the state.
