Lockdown: Plateau govt. sets up 10 mobile courts to try violators

Following the directives by the Plateau government for a total lockdown of the state from April 9 to April 15, Gov. Simon Lalong has set up 10 mobile courts to try potential defaulters of the order.
The governor, in a statement issued by the state Commissioner of Information, Mr Dan Manjang, on Thursday in Jos, said that the decision was to enforce compliance.
He said that the lockdown directive was to enable the government fumigate the state, as part of the measures to protect the residents from contracting the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Members of the public are, therefore, advised to comply with the ‘no-movement’ order, while those exempted because of their essential services are to carry their identity cards at all times,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state government has given out the situation room emergency response numbers for members of the public to call, should the need arise.
The numbers, which the government said would be available 24 hours are: 07057326212 and 08186015907.

The governor also appealed to residents to accommodate the unusual situation, saying it was the sacrifice necessary to combat COVID-19 in the state.
He added that situation was not peculiar to Plateau, but rather, a global challenge.
Lalong, however, urged security agencies to be firm in enforcing compliance, while remaining professional and observing all the rules of engagement.
He warned that any security personnel, who overstretched his mandate by engaging in corrupt conducts or brutality, would be held accountable.
