Court Sentences 21 In Adamawa For Violating Covid-19 Lockdown Order

Not fewer than 21 persons have been convicted by a mobile court in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, for violating covid-19 lockdown order.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the state, had signed an executive order to give biting teeth to movement restriction order, which he imposed after an index case of coronavirus was recorded last Wednesday.

About 50 people were accordingly arraigned on Monday, among them 21 were convicted and sentenced to 2-hour community service.

The convicts were ordered to sweep part of the Jimeta modern market in Yola.

Magistrate Daniel John, who handed down the judgment had acquitted 29 accused arraigned by the police.

Speaking earlier, spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said security forces were working in synergy, to enforce the lockdown order.

He said, “we have arrested a number of motorists and they will appear before a mobile court”.
