Kano To Establish Cottage Industry Hubs To Boost Local Economy, Create Jobs
By Jabiru Hassan
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish Cottage Industry and Cottage Enterprise Hubs across strategic locations in the state to accelerate industrialisation, promote local production and create more employment opportunities.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday. The Governor made the announcement during the Empowerment Programme for Registered Butchers organised by the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency (CTSHA) at the Government House, Kano.
Governor Yusuf said the project has been captured in the 2026 approved budget and is aimed at providing modern production centres for artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs. He said the hubs will provide shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development and organised market access to improve productivity and competitiveness.
The Governor noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting Made-in-Nigeria products, while advancing the Kano First Agenda of supporting local businesses and economic growth. He disclosed that the hubs will also include dedicated sections for butchers, meat processing, leather processing and tannery operations to strengthen the livestock value chain and attract more investments.
Governor Yusuf said the initiative will reduce production costs, improve product quality, expand market access and create thousands of jobs for youths in meat processing, leather works, packaging, transportation and other related sectors.
He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the support, maintain high standards of hygiene and professionalism, and encourage others to register with the agency to benefit from future government interventions.

Northern Christian Association Seeks FG’s Explanation Over Religious Project Allocations in 2026 Budget
By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna
The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has called on the Federal Government to explain what it described as disparities in funding for church and mosque projects contained in the proposed 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the association said reports indicated that about ₦1.91 billion was allocated to seven church-related projects, while approximately ₦6.14 billion was earmarked for 52 mosque-related projects.
The NCA said it was not opposed to government support for religious projects but argued that such allocations should reflect the constitutional principles of fairness, transparency and equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation.
According to the association, the reported disparity has raised concerns among Christians about equity in public spending and the implementation of government policies. Hayab urged the Federal Government to clarify the basis for the allocations, stating that public policies and budgetary decisions should promote national unity and inspire public confidence.
“Government should not establish a system that creates division among citizens or gives the impression that one religious community is more important than another,” the statement said.
The association maintained that its position should not be interpreted as opposition to government engagement with faith-based organisations but as a call for balanced and transparent allocation of public resources. As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government had not publicly responded to the concerns raised by the association.
