ZAMFARA PETROLEUM MARKETERS BAN SUPPLY IN JERRI CANS.

From Abba Kabara, Gusau.

Petroleum major marketers and the Independent marketers (IPMAN) have jointly conceded to ban the supply of petrol in Jerri cans from fuelling stations.

The measure is taken to suffocate the increasing trend of banditry in the state after realising that Jerrican petroleum brisk business in the remote rural areas is aiding operational movements of the killer bandits in the state.

The marketers gave this commitment at a joint meeting today between the marketers and the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs chaired by the commissioner Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji.

The chairman Independent marketers Alhaji Yahaya Kamba who disclosed the hint, said even though the petroleum marketers are aware of the need for the product in the remote areas particularly for dry season farmers, “we have no option other than conceding to this measure in view of the increasing security challenge facing our state” he stressed.

Earlier in his welcome address, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji said he called for the joint meeting to rally the Governor’s appeal message to the marketers.

He said the governor, in consideration of the current worrying situation, is appealing for the cooperation of all petroleum marketers to help in giving their contribution to curtailing banditry by placing a ban on sells of petrol in Jerricans.
